Minnesota Marine Art Museum: Visitor Experience Associate and Retail Manager (P/T)

 

Overview

MMAM is seeking a talented Visitor Experience Associate and Retail Manager to welcome visitors, promote membership, and manage MMAM retail in order to help advance and grow your art museum. This role has two areas of responsibilities – Visitor Services and Retail - and reports to the Executive Director.

 

The position is Part-Time, working approximately 25 hours per week, which includes one weekend day each week. Compensation is 13/hour.

 

Education and Experience

·         College degree required

·         Excellent customer service skills are essential

·         Experience with retail business preferred

·         Museum or arts organization experience preferred

 

Responsibilities

Visitor Services: Create and maintain a welcoming and inspiring environment

·         Comfortable being “the face” of the museum as you’ll welcome and engage with all visitors to MMAM

·         Proactively and warmly welcomes guests, responds to questions, and offers assistance – always showing the highest quality of customer service

·         Create and maintain a positive and inviting experience for Museum visitors, that is conducive to repeat visits, new and renewing memberships, and positive word of mouth for MMAM

·         Handle all transactions (admissions fees, memberships, donations, gift shop purchases, etc.) that are conducted at front desk

·         Thoughtfully and proactively promote MMAM memberships and benefits, keeping in mind MMAM’s vision of being a visual art institution dedicated to community engagement and the exhibition and interpretation of great art inspired by water

·         Know, share, and promote upcoming exhibitions, education programs, and events; know current MMAM communications (what’s recent on social media, in the paper, sent out in the mail)

·         Maintain appearance, upkeep, and cleanliness of the front desk, store, and atrium areas – this can include maintaining inventory of marketing material and ensuring proper/timely signage

·         Other duties as assigned, including supporting MMAM volunteers as valued members of the team

 

Retail: Create and maintain a memorable shopping experience that results in great sales, word-of-mouth, and raising MMAM’s visibility

·         Envision, create, and execute plan & experience for MMAM Store

·         All MMAM Store purchasing

·         Develop and maintain relationships with wholesale vendors and local artisans represented  in MMAM Store

·         Participate in regular inventory processes and regular sales reports using Microsoft Dynamic Point of Sale

·         Prepare merchandise: receiving, unpacking and stocking incoming merchandise and entering into Point of Sale

·         Improve and manage online store

·         Coordinate shipping of purchase orders

·         Evaluate, develop, and maintain MMAM Store appearance

·         Other duties as assigned             

 

Hours/Benefits

(P/T) Approximately 25 hours per week on average, to include one weekend day, as needed, which may include evenings for special events. Compensation is $13/hour.

While no health or dental insurance are available for P/T staff, a simple IRA plan + Museum match are available.

Events: Create, manage, and run events that raise MMAM’s visibility, use, and engagement

·         Organize annual fundraising events, parties, receptions etc. in collaboration with Executive Director and MMAM team

·         Seek and work to improve and grow MMAM events in number, type, quality, and fundraising aspect

·         Handle all museum rentals through each stage: promote, coordinate, book, set up, implement, tear down, staff, coordinate cleaning team, and invoice

·         Lead organization, set up, implementation, de-installation, coordinating clean team for MMAM special events

·         Other duties as assigned
