Community Exhibition: Shakespeare Illustrations by Rockwell Kent: Ralf Nemec Collection Part 2
On display in the MMAM's Oberton Education Room are 20 original illustrations created
by Rockwell Kent for the 1936 edition of “The Complete Works of William
Shakespeare” published by Garden City Publishing Company.
Kent (1882-1971) was a famous painter, printmaker, illustrator and writer who
lived and worked in Winona from 1912-3 and was the subject of the recent
“Rockwell Kent in Winona: A Centennial Celebration” in early 2013. Kent
produced a staggering amount of art in his long career and is best known for
his book illustrations of Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick” as well as the
Shakespeare prints on display at the Museum.
