New Second Saturday Coordinator

Greetings MMAM Supporters and Friends! My name is Carrie Frederich and I am honored to have joined the team at MMAM as Second Saturdays Coordinator. I am glad to be back in Winona after an almost ten-year hiatus in my hometown of Elgin, Illinois after graduating from Winona State in 2009. Coming back to Winona is somewhat of a dream-come-true and I am excited to not just be back in the area, but for the opportunity to join MMAM in an effort to increase comfortable access to the fine arts through our Second Saturdays programming throughout the year. 

I have always had an appreciation for art in many forms. My education from WSU was mainly focused in the theatre and dance department, but I will admit that visual art is a newer appreciation that I have been cultivating within myself over the past few years. To me, an artist's work is a glimpse into their lives - their interpretations, appreciations and observations of their own experiences and the world around them. What they wish to communicate and share with their work is something we can either relate to or learn from and having MMAM to bring an incredible collection of artwork to our fingertips grants us all with an incredible opportunity to learn from the art as well as each other.  

Through Second Saturdays specifically, we are looking forward to opening the doors and engaging with you - our community members and supporters!  February's Second Saturday theme is Love & Art.  I encourage you all to come into the museum ready for new experiences and programming crafted especially for you! Take a poetry stroll through the museum with Winona's former poet laureate, Jim Armstrong. Take in live music from cellist Rachel Ryan Dahlgren or Heart String Harp Circle while perusing the Manoogian Gallery. Try your hand at needle felting or brush lettering. These and other programming are all in store for you and your families at our first Second Saturday of 2019!
