Flora & Waking Worlds: Family Day

About Family Day:

A day-long series of exploratory experiences throughout the galleries, hands-on activities, and informal gallery interactives, geared at groups and families of all shapes and sizes. Family Day is part of the opening weekend series for Flora and Waking Worlds

Family day also features special admission discounts. Families (found families & friends included!) are just $20 for the whole group. 

Special Family Day Events: 

10:30am - 11:30am:  Book Signing & Talk with Artist Nick Wroblewski and Author Mary Casanova   

Join illustrator, Nick Wroblewski, and author, Mary Casanova, of the books Wake Up, Island and Hush Hush, Forest on Sunday, January 29 at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM). Wroblewski and Casanova will discuss their work and sign books in MMAM’s Atrium. This event is free and no registration is required. General admission is required to tour the galleries. 

1:00 - 1:15pm: Printmaking demonstration with Ian Hanesworth.

Printmaker and exhibiting artist, Ian Hanesworth, will ink a carved linoleum print, and pull a print. in MMAM’s atrium. This 15-minute demonstration is free with admission.

1:00pm - 2:30pm: Family Printmaking workshop with Ian Hanesworth.

Participants will carve a botanical print on easy-cut soft linoleum, and print a series of postcards.

  • $5 materials fee per person (in addition to admission).

  • For ages 6 & older (sharp carving tools will be used).

  • This workshop will begin with a 15-minute printmaking demonstration in the Museum’s atrium. 


About the New Exhibitions: 

FloraKeinen + Hosono + Hanesworth 

A trajectory of three artists, three mediums, and three masterful surface explorations of the botanical wonders of our world. Historic Japanese prints from Imao Keinen, contemporary porcelain vessels by Hitomi Hosono, and printed fabrics and original prints from Ian Hanesworth.

WAKING WORLDS: WONDROUS READS FOR CURIOUS MINDS

Featuring original illustrations from three book projects; Mary Casanova’s Wake Up, Island (University of Minnesota Press) and Hush, Hush, Forest (University of Minnesota Press) as illustrated by printmaker Nick Wroblewski, and World of Wonder: In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments (Milkweed Editions) written by Aimee Nezhukumatathil and illustrated by Fumi Nakamura.
