Featured are paintings from the collections not on regular display at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum. Works include recently acquired pieces and old favorites ranging over 200 years of art history. It begins with 1782, a historical view by the British portrait artist, Thomas Gainsborough and concludes with contemporary artist James Butler, known for painting regional scenes of the Mississippi River. Artists also represented are Eugène Boudin, a French marine painter, Thomas Moran, an American painter of the Hudson River School, Warren Sheppard, an American painter representing quiet landscapes, Hugo Schnars-Alquist, a German artist known for painting ocean scenes, André Derain, a French artist and co-founder of Fauvism, and Jane Peterson, an American artist best known for her use of vibrant colors.
